The “Move Illinois Program” is a long-range capital improvement program being undertaken by the Illinois Tollway. INHS-UBAP is contracted by Illinois Tollway to conduct surveys of affected areas and monitor mitigation efforts to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations, as well as ensuring money is not wasted on ineffective mitigation strategies.
- Pre-construction
- survey for endangered and threatened species,
- develop conservation plans
- Post-construction
- evaluate response of aquatic ecosystems to construction activities,
- monitor populations in affected areas
- Evaluate mitigation efforts including:
- survival of head-started turtles,
- survival of translocated freshwater mussels, and
- performance of bioswales
- colonization of created wetlands by macroinvertebrates
- compare communities using restored sites to nearby established sites
