In addition to environmental assessments related to construction, UBAP scientists have undertaken several research projects within the Tollway corridor including:
-
- Long-term monitoring of sites along each Tollway corridor
- How temperature affects the toxicity of road salt to aquatic invertebrates
- Developing species distribution models to help identify locations that may have endangered fishes
- Monitoring the effects of the Carp flood control barrier on turtles
- Examining the health of turtles in an urban area
- Long-term monitoring of mussel populations
- Survival of translocated mussels
- Determining if urban parks foster resident and migratory bird populations
- Determining seasonal activity of amphibians to help advise prescribed burn schedules.
- Comparing survival and reproduction of Northern White Cedar at different sites
- Using eDNA to detect cryptic species, including:
- Wetland Birds
- Salamander Mussel
- Massasauga Rattlesnake
- Dragonflies
- Glacial Lake Fish
